Each time I hit a new rank, MTG arena doesn’t let me rank fall below that new rank. Within each rank it can drop (i.e. diamond 2 back to diamond 1).

This has lead to a strategy to improve all of my decks as I have move up the ranks.

Strategy:

When I attain a new rank (I.e. plat 4 to Diamond

  1. When working on my decks I pick a deck based on the daily quest.

Like today I got a quest from blue and black spells. So I busted out my flash/instant deck.

2) I try to only play ranked in order to get my 4 daily wins with that deck. This forces my decks to be efficient (appropriate mana curve.) and ensure I am playing against more series competition (even if its lower ranks).

I play a games with each of my competitive decks until I can win with that deck. Tweaking a tuning things like removal, mana curve and overall win mechanism of the deck.

Most Recently I attained Mythic and that has been the most fun. I have had 14 days to put nearly all my decks through the fire of the mythic ranks only play against other mythic players with them.

Obviously this has dropped my mythic percentage from it’s initial 92% down to as low as 79%. But the first time I made mythic, I had no intentions of going up with in the mythic ranks. In the end I was able to get 22 different decks to win a game at the Mythic rank. The goal this season was to build all of my decks of so I could better farm for gold with any deck I wanted to.

Then when I started to try to farm gold it was a wake up call. I started standard events and only won 1 out of 7 games with what I thought was my 3 and 4th strongest decks. As of right now I started another standard event with my Esika Deck and have won the first 2 games of the event.

Hopefully by the end of this I will have a handful of decks that I can consistently get to 7 wins on. That will make it more engaging to farm gold for the Strixhaven drafts.
